In response to the humanitarian crisis in parts of Ethiopia, Kenya, and
Somalia, The Rotary Foundation (Canada) has established the Rotary Horn of
Africa Famine and Refugee Relief Fund, which will support recovery projects
in the affected areas. The worst drought in 60 years has gripped the Horn of
Africa, leading to acute famine in parts of Somalia, where hundreds of
thousands of people are now fleeing to Ethiopia and Kenya for aid. More than
10 million people are affected in the drought-stricken countries, including
3.7 million who are at risk of starvation. Use the attached form to
contribute to this fund and mail a cheque to The Rotary Foundation (Canada)
mark Horn of Africa Fund.

How the fund will be managed - An international committee of Rotarians close
to the situation will oversee the fund. They will identify the needs of the
affected communities, manage the distribution of funds, oversee project
implementation, report on projects, and ensure proper stewardship. This
approach is similar to how the Foundation managed the Solidarity in South
Asia fund after the 2004 tsunami and the Rotary Japan 2011 Disaster Recovery
Fund.

Recognition - Cash contributions designated for the Rotary Horn of Africa
Famine and Refugee Relief Fund are eligible for Paul Harris Fellow and Major
Donor recognition. Donations will count toward club and district total
contribution goals; however, they will not count toward Annual Programs Fund
goals.

The motion was passed and the District will match all club and member
donations made to The Horn of Africa Relief Fund dollar for dollar to a
maximum of $50,000.00 ** This is exciting news!
