ImageElaine Cougler is a Woodstock writer and resident who has turned a former teaching career into one of writing. Her novel of historical fiction, The Loyalist’s Wife was published in June last year. It’s publication is timely for it represents a fresh look at the American Revolution from the point of view of those loyal to the King. When American colonists resort to war against Britain and her colonial attitudes, a young couple caught in the crossfire must find a way to survive in the wilds of New York State.

The author herself is a descendent of Loyalist settlers. With vivid scenes of desperation, heroism and personal angst, Elaine Cougler takes us back to the beginnings of one great country and the planting of Loyalist seed for another.

Terry Fallis, Stephen Leacock medal winner and author of The Best Laid Plans had this to say: “Elaine Cougler has written a page-turning novel of the American Revolution through eyes of a conflicted loyalist soldier and his indomitable wife. You’ll feel the hardship of homesteading, the fear of the enemy, the blows of battle and the pain of separation. You’ll be transported through history. This is not just a novel written about another times, it seems written in another time.”

We are very pleased that Elaine will speak to us. Guests are welcome to come out. Our meeting starts at 6.30 pm at the Quality Hotels and Suites. Costs for a meal is $ 15.00
