Holstein Embryos for Uganda –

This is an informal aid project to improve milk production on Ugandan dairy farms using embryos donated by Oxford County Holstein breeders. Working with the Ugandan Dairy Farmers Association (DAFAN) embryo transplant specialist Alex Macintosh, dairy specialist Jack Rodenburg and local Holstein breeders have made two trips to Uganda to implant frozen embryos and offer feeding and management advice.

Please attend this meeting and find out more about this project.

Jack Rodenburg is a 1974 University of Guelph graduate in Animal Science. From 1974 to 2008 he worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, first as a assistant agricultural representative in Northumberland county and later as a dairy specialist in Markdale and Woodstock advising farmers on all aspects of dairy herd management. Specific areas of expertise developed during this time included dairy cattle nutrition, water quality, barn design for cow comfort and labour efficiency, and robotic milking.

After 34 years as a dairy advisor, Jack retired in 2008 and started “DairyLogix” consulting, with a focus on designing dairy barns for cow comfort and labour efficiency, and lecturing on robotic milking, and other dairy automation and precision technologies.

Jack is a "certified CowSignals trainer" and has co-authored three books in the popular "CowSignals" series, entitled "Robotic Milking", "Building for the Cow" and "Feeding Signals" with Dr. Jan Hulsen.
